Our LeadershipELLIOT SOKOLOW
Elliot Sokolow started Florida Heating & Air Conditioning, a mechanical contracting business in Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 1970. In May 1996 Florida Heating signed a merger agreement with American Residential Services, Inc., (ARS) as one of its founding companies. Following the IPO of ARS, Elliot was employed as Director of software development and implementation became Senior Vice President and Director of Residential Operations, heading a Division with over 4,000 employees operating in 56 cities in 17 states and with annual revenues of $500 million. He also served on the Board of Directors of ARS. In May 1999 ServiceMaster acquired ARS and Elliot chose to pursue other investment interests in real estate and business.
Between June 1999 to August 2000, Sokolow was a consultant to a number of companies in the software industry, becoming CEO of Commerciant Corp., a technology and financial services company from September, 2000 until August 2002.
From 1999 through 2007 he was been a partner in a number of real estate development and building projects, including the construction of several luxury homes, a 300+ unit mixed use condominium, and a number of townhouse projects.
In January 2006, one of Elliot’s investment companies joined with two other ARS employees to reacquire the new construction air conditioning operations of ARS in Southern Florida.
Elliot has been actively involved in air conditioning industry activities, having served as president of the South Florida Air Conditioning Contractors Association and vice president of the Florida State Air Conditioning Contractors Association. He was elected to two consecutive terms as National President of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America, the leading HVAC industry trade association with over 5,000 member companies.
Also active in his community, he spent twelve years as a member of the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals, the agency overseeing the building code in Broward County, Florida, and served one year as Chairman of that Board. He was also a member of the Palm Beach County Code Advisory Board for several years. He served three two year terms as Mayor of the Village of Sea Ranch Lakes and five years as President of the Village Council. He was a member of the Broward County Planning Council for four years and a member of the Hillsboro Inlet Commission.
Dennis Duff, General Manager Dennis Duff went to work for Florida Heating & Air Conditioning in 1970 right after graduation from Nova High School in Davie. Dennis learned the air conditioning trade "on the job" and served in many different capacities including installer, field manager, operations mananager and became an owner and general manager of Engineered Air in 2006. He became a State Certified Class A Air Conditioning Contractor in 1988. Dennis has spent thirty eight of the last 41 years in association with Elliot.
